From Pastor Jack regarding church being canceled tomorrow
Saturday, February 6th, 2010 | By Jack Gill | Posted in Announcements, Blog, Calendar, From Jack, Resources | No Comments »To all of the Saints at Blue Ridge:
Yes, we are obviously canceling church again tomorrow! Also canceled is AWANA tomorrow and as well as Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and AHG for Monday evening.
However, instead of just an e-mail, our “tech team” (Carter Farley and Tom Gossage) has made it possible for us to send you a brief message. If you will connect to the link below, it will direct you to a short video that I hope will equip and encourage you this Sunday.
Also, for those of you who might be struggling to come up with a lesson for Sunday morning, here is a short devotional to assist you if you need it!
Finally, here is the link to help assist you with online giving (as mentioned in the video.)
I pray that you have a great day in the Lord, and that you can enjoy the snow!
In Him,
Pastor Jack
Kids and Sermon Notes
Thursday, June 4th, 2009 | By Rich Shipe | Posted in Blog, From Rich, Resources | 2 Comments »I was recently inspired by an article I read by a well-known pastor and his wife on parenting and the Sunday morning church service. In the article, they shared a vision for making the Sunday morning service meaningful for children rather than just an experience to be endured. They gave many practical tips to help parents mentor their children into a richer understanding of the service.
One of the ideas they shared was for parents to encourage their children to take notes during the sermon. My first thought was how hard this would be for my kids (who are ages seven, nine, and ten) because it’s hard enough for me! But I decided to give it a try. I gave them some basic instructions and encouragement and we tried it out. Read the rest of this entry »

Thursday, April 30th, 2009 | By Jack Gill | Posted in Blog, From Jack, Worship and Arts | No Comments »For anyone involved in aviation to any degree, there is a key word that is very much a part of what is required in order to have a safe and enjoyable flight; that is “preflight.”
Preflight is your preparation before flying. You have to plan and fill out a flight plan if you’re going to travel anywhere. Also, you need to know the weather, so you must receive a weather briefing. You need to look over your aircraft in order to observe if anything is wrong or could potentially be a problem. You want to be as thoroughly prepared as you can be before becoming airborne. (There’s an old saying, ‘I’d rather be on the ground wishing I was in the air, than in the air wishing I was on the ground.”) Being prepared makes for a more enjoyable time of flying.
Last month we talked about having a God‐centered family worship, and how we want to encourage each family to participate in a way that is suitable to where they are in life – without excluding anyone. One of the keys to this is being prepared for worship. You’ve got to have a worship “preflight!” It is an area in which we need to be strategic in our thinking. Let me give you a few ideas for consideration using the acronym P.R.E.P.A.R.E. Read the rest of this entry »

Meals Ministry
Thursday, July 31st, 2008 | By Rich Shipe | Posted in About Us, Announcements, Get Involved, Service Opportunities | No Comments »Often times we are able to minister to our church families by providing meals during an extended illness, hospital stay, or birth of a baby. This is a great way to serve, to meet new people, and to do a behind-the-scenes-but-valuable ministry. Please contact Geni Hall (genihall[at]aol.com or 540-338-4287) to get on our availability list to help as needs arise. Also, Christy Shipe is coordinating meals for the Thomas family while Melissa is going through her six months of chemotherapy. If you would like to help with this ongoing need for the Thomases, you can sign up online or contact Christy directly (540-338-2597).
