Redemption and Josh Hamilton

Posted on 10/12/2010 by Rich Shipe

Update 2 (October 2010): And they just made the World Series! Pretty cool that his teammates deferred to him and celebrated with ginger ale instead of spraying alcohol.

Update: I’m reposting this article I wrote a couple of years ago about Josh Hamilton because the Rangers just made it to the American League Championship Series in Major League Baseball. Last year he publicly fell again, not as far as he had in the past, but it just showed how powerful the flesh can be and how it is an ongoing battle for him… and for all of us. Plus I’ve included a new video testimony at the bottom.

Josh Hamilton, a professional baseball player for the Texas Rangers, is an amazing testimony of God’s power to redeem and change a life. You might have heard about Josh Hamilton recently because he put on an impressive show last week at the Home Run Derby, breaking the record by hitting 28 home runs in one round. You can watch all the impressive home runs by Josh Hamilton at MLB’s website here. He even hit three more than 500 feet! In addition to the Derby performance, Hamilton currently leads the Majors in RBIs.

Hamilton’s amazing performance is made all the more impressive when you find out that not too long ago, he was deep within the dark pit of drug addiction. He says that his last drug use was October 6, 2005.

Roe v. Wade Anniversary

Posted on 01/22/2009 by Rich Shipe

On this day in 1973 the Supreme Court declared that unborn babies may be destroyed before birth. Since then an estimated 50 million children have legally lost their lives in the United States of America. Remember this issue in your prayers today and beg our father in heaven for mercy and revival in our nation.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalms 139:13-14

Good luck, Wiccan style!

Posted on 07/23/2008 by Rich Shipe

Hopefully I’m not making fun of someone too much here but I couldn’t help but laugh at this AP story. A woman in Indiana accidently stabbed herself in the foot during a Wiccan ceremony she was performing. She is apparently recovering fine but the funny part is that according to the article “she was performing the ceremony to give thanks for a recent run of good luck!” Hopefully this experience will cause her to question her beliefs and start a search that ends with finding the one and true God.

Keeping Perspective on the Eternal

The Old Testament prophet Samuel was quite a fellow.  Here was a guy that had heard the audible voice of God as a child.  He had faithfully served under the priest and judge Eli.  He had stepped into the place of priest and judge himself after Eli died a sudden death.  He made a circuit throughout the nation of Israel, and he would judge the people according to the Word of the Lord.  He had anointed Saul, and seen Saul‘s disobedience.  He personally hacked that wicked king Agag into pieces (gulp!), and spoke boldly to Saul (who was now king) that he would lose his office to another.  He followed God‘s voice, and anointed David as well.   In short, he was a bold and faithful man,  and he was diligent to serve the Lord.  He was not one to pursue that which was not directly aligned with God or His purposes.  He called the nation to follow after the Lord with its whole heart.
