Romania Reborn invites you to come enjoy an evening to benefit the children of Hope House and Living Hope Center. While you sample coffee and an array of delicious desserts, learn how the lives of Romania’s most vulnerable children are being transformed by our national-run ministries. Hear the moving stories of formerly-abandoned children, and get a firsthand glimpse of their world through their new ministry video. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome and will be accepted at the event. Bring a friend and join them!

Special Missionary Need update — Romania

Adi and Lavinia report that the Lord has raised close to three-quarters of the funds needed for the roof repair to the Living Hope Center. Another $2,500 is still needed to complete all the repairs, however, and winter weather is fast approaching.

They report, “We would highly appreciate your help and support in dealing with this because there is a lot of activitiy going on in this house, a lot of children coming every day, a lot of women and parents.” If you are able to make a special gift for this need above and beyond your regular giving, please consider doing so.

Gifts may be made either through BRBC or Romania Reborn. Please specify that the gift is for the Living Hope Center roof.

Special Missionary Need — Romania 11-19

Adi and Lavi in Romania have a critical situation with the roof at the Living Hope Center. The tile roof, probably the original landlord house roof, is leaking badly. They have pots and pans distributed throughout the whole top floor and the water is now beginning to come down the walls as well. This critical situation will become even worse this winter when the snows come, which will be soon.

Full repairs will likely cost around $10,000.00. Please pray for the provision of these funds so that repairs can be made in the small window of time before the snows pile up on the roof and cause even more damage.

Please also consider making a special financial gift to the Living Hope Center to help repair the leak. If you can contribute any amount that is above and beyond your regular giving to BRBC, we would be most grateful.

News from Romania Reborn –

Hope House Family Center
Praises:

New house parents have been found for Hope House! After almost two years of prayer, God has led a wonderful couple, Mr. and Mrs. Bartos, to serve at Hope House as house parents. They are sincere Christians who have a good testimony and work with children in their church. Corina Caba, director of Hope House, plans on placing a total of 6 children in the care of the Bartos family.
Recently, Corina Caba rescued “Marcus” (1 ½) and “Natalie” (7 months) from the hospital. These two children are younger siblings of Alin, the little boy in Corina’s care who died of cancer. They will be the first two children to enter the care of the new house parents and receive the love they need to grow and recover.
Two little boys, “Gabe” and “Robert” (both 3 months old), have been rescued from the hospital and placed with good families who hope to adopt them.

Pray for:

The new house parents to have the strength and wisdom they need to care for Hope House’s new arrivals.
The children at Hope House (names changed to protect their identity) who:

Are in the process of being adopted, waiting for paperwork, court hearings, and birth parent approval for finalization – Christopher, Catherine, Katy, Andrew, and Amanda.
Are in process of being made adoptable and have families waiting to adopt them – Joshua, Sean, and Timothy.
Are in the process of being made adoptable, but need adoptive families – Andra, Angie, Ryan, Darren.
Are facing legal difficulties from birth parents as they wait to be adopted or find adoptive families – Gabby, Gabe, and Alex. Pray especially for Gabe as he faces the possibility of being reintegrated back into his birth family.

Please pray that God would bless all these children, their adoptive families, and the judges hearing their cases. Pray that nothing will hinder these children from finding joy in new forever families.

Living Hope Center
The Living Hope Center tutoring program has started out the year with 18 children! This is a significant increase over last year and is a big praise, but also means more work for the LHC staff. Pray for the teacher, Alina, and the LHC staff as they visit the homes of each child to better understand the home situation of each child in their care. Pray that the children will grow in the knowledge and understanding of God’s love for them.

Dear friends,
Thank you for your prayers for Romania Reborn! Here are some praises and prayer needs for the Living Hope Center and Hope House:

Living Hope Center

Praises:

Last week, the Living Hope Center hosted a conference for youth in their newly renovated basement (two pictures below). The conference was held on three consecutive nights for four hours each, so there was a lot of skepticism that nobody would come. However, they were blessed with an average of 130 people every night. The attendees included youth, adults, successful business people, the poor, and the wealthy in the community. Although the conference was focused on giving young people the tools they need to make good career and education choices, it became a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel and build bridges within the community.

The emphasis on education at the conference gave many young people a renewed vision for continuing on with a higher education, in spite of the difficulties they face.

The tutoring kids were blessed with a great summer of clubs and activities, which continue to challenge them to grow and dream big dreams.

Pray For:

The tutoring program, which starts again on September 15! Please pray for the teacher, Alina, and the other staff members as they expand the program to accommodate 25-30 children. Pray that they continue to have God’s vision for this ministry and a passion to reach these children with the gospel.

Funding for tables and chairs, which are still needed to complete the furnishing of the newly renovated LHC basement. Pray that this new space will give LHC new opportunities to reach the community of Targu Jiu for Christ. (If you would be interested in giving specifically for this need, you can give online at www.romania-reborn.org or by check and designate your gift for “LHC furniture”.)

Gabi, a young man in the Balesti church who lost his mother to cancer this summer. His desire is to continue his education and become the best mechanic in Targu Jiu, but he and his grandmother have no income. Please pray that God will provide $150/month in support for his school, transportation, and family needs.

Gore, a member of the Balesti church, who has been diagnosed with a tumor in his ear. Surgery has been scheduled for October to remove the tumor. Please pray for complete his complete healing and recovery.

Hope House

Praises:

Alan’s funeral went well and was well attended by friends and family. Several weeks after the funeral, Corina was able to take her children to the beach on vacation and find some quiet after the difficult months of Alan’s illness.

Pray for:

Marc (1 ½ years) and Renata (7 months), siblings of Alan’s who have been rescued from state care and will be living with Corina until new houseparents for Hope House can be found. It is Corina’s hope to find a loving couple to come to Hope House to care for Marc and Renata, and eventually care for several other abandoned children. We have been praying for new houseparents for a long time, but Corina has been unable to find anyone suitable. Please pray that the Lord will provide a Christian couple, who will love these children and understand their needs. Pray that Corina will have strength to care for Marc and Renata until houseparents can be found.

Several children in Hope House foster care are in the process of being adopted. Their adoptions are almost finalized, but the process is moving very slowly as they wait for the birth mothers to appear in court to give final consent. Pray for the adoptive families to have patience as they wait. Please pray that each adoption will be quickly finalized, so the children can be safe and secure in their new families.

“I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us…” (Isaiah 63:7)

Romania update, 7-31

Dear friends,
At 5:00 this morning Romanian time, Alan’s heart stopped beating, and he went home to be with Jesus.

Although this was not the outcome we or Corina had hoped and prayed for, and although Corina is grieving him deeply, still there is joy in knowing that this little 2 1/2-year-old boy is no longer suffering. His pain is gone, his eyes are opened, and he is home.

When I talked to Corina this afternoon, she told me that over the past few weeks, she had been preparing Alan to meet Jesus. “You don’t need to be afraid,” she had told him. “Jesus will come and bring you to a beautiful place, and it will be your home.”

Alan seemed unsure. “Will Jesus come by car?” he asked (he had a fascination with cars!).

“Jesus owns many cars, I’m sure He can find you one,” Corina said. Still, Alan seemed tense, snuggling into Corina as if in fear.

“You don’t need to be afraid,” she told him again. “Jesus will take you home to heaven. You can stay there with Jesus and wait for me, and after a little while, Mommy will come there too.”

At that, Alan seemed to relax and be at peace.

Alan’s funeral will be held on Tuesday. Please pray that the good news of hope beyond death would go forth in power at the funeral. Also pray for:

Comfort for Corina as she grieves the little boy who had been a son to her. Pray that she will be refreshed and restored in God’s presence.
Alan’s two biological brothers, who have also been abandoned in state care. They are genetically predisposed to suffer the same illness as Alan, and Corina has begun making strides to get them out of state care so they can be spared their brother’s fate. Please pray for their lives and futures.
The doctors and other suffering families with whom Corina came in contact during her time in the hospital. Ask God to reveal Himself to them.

“Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12) How amazing that this little boy who had suffered the loss of both his eyes can now see the Savior face to face.

Special Missionary Need Praise Report– Romania — Update 7-14

Several days ago Romania Reborn reported an emergency financial need, and the Lord has met that need!

Here’s the report:

July 14, 2009

Dear friends,

All of the money needed to pay the Hope House salary taxes has been pledged! We praise God for His gracious provision that will allow us to continue to provide families for the 30 children currently in Hope House care.

Thank you to each of you who prayed and were willing to give extra to help meet this need. Any extra designated gifts that come in above and beyond the needed $9,600 will be sent to Hope House to cover salary taxes in the coming months.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:19)

Special Missionary Need — Romania, 7-9-09

The following special missionary need is conveyed by Romania Reborn, which is currently supported by Blue Ridge Bible Church.

We ask that you prayerfully consider helping meet this need while recognizing that BRBC’s existing support to Romania Reborn will continue, and that any contributions for this purpose be above and beyond your current giving to BRBC.

Dear Friends,
We need to share with you an urgent need facing Hope House.

Hope House is required to pay salary taxes for all of its employees (including its 20 foster parents). These taxes are due every July & January and go toward government-mandated pension and healthcare for the employees.

Hope House currently does not have the $9,600 needed to pay its taxes, which are due July 25th. Unfortunately, the amount that Romania Reborn sends each month is only enough to cover salaries, not additional taxes. Over the last 18 months, another foundation has graciously been sending Hope House extra money which has helped them pay their taxes, but that assistance is no longer enough to meet the need.

Would you be willing and able to help with this need? Gifts of any amount will help Hope House pay the tax bill, avoid additional penalties, and ultimately keep all of its 30 children in good families. The only way to trim our ministry costs would be to terminate some of our children’s foster care and put them at the mercy of the state system, an option we’re very loathe to consider.

(RR has enough money on-hand to advance the sum if we know that pledges are coming to cover the amount — but we don’t have enough to pay it outright without jeopardizing our regular monthly support.)

Romania update, 7-6-09

Update on Alan
We are so thankful for God’s protection and provision of Alan’s life! Alan has survived two surgeries, which were invasive and dangerous, and is doing better than expected.

Unfortunately, the doctors believe there is still some cancer left after his eyes were removed, which will require another surgery. However, Alan had a bad reaction to the anesthesia from his recent surgery, and they have decided to wait 2-4 weeks before doing the final surgery. The timing is very delicate: too soon and his body will react to the anesthesia again, too late and the cancer may spread.

Corina & Alan travelled back to Oradea on Sunday and will stay there for at least a couple weeks. Corina said he is continually asking “Going home?,” so it should be uplifting for them both to be back in Oradea. Of course Alan will be continuing with chemo during the next few weeks. Corina is hoping she may even be able to find a surgeon who could do the next surgery in Oradea, since traveling to Bucharest is such a strain on them both. Please know that your prayers are key in upholding Corina and Alan through these difficult times.

Please pray:

for wisdom in performing the next surgery at just the right time.
for a surgeon who could perform the surgery in Oradea, if that is what would be best.
for Alan to fully recover from the anesthesia.
for supernatural grace & strength for Corina & Alan both.
that all of the cancer will be removed and Alan can begin to fully recover and heal from the cancer and surgeries.
